08/10/08: Received SenseCam
09/10/08: Photographed camera, cables etc.
Installation
I installed the SenseCam Image Viewer/ Importer software on a Dell Latitude D630 running Windows XP Professional. The first problem I encountered is that no prompt appears for transfer of images. The images aren’t imported either when designating SenseCam Import for automatic import. Selecting for a prompt each time doesn’t bring up a prompt window.
This problem would appear to be specific to this machine as it happen on another machine - a Dell Inspiron 1100 running Windows XP.
Usage considerations
Hanging the camera around the neck could prove to be a problem. I was eating lunch, and when I leaned over the table, the camera moved under the line of the fork. If we’re sending patients out into social situations with this e.g. a pub, we might look at another way of attaching the camera or finding a waterproof housing.
Design Issues
The placement of the ‘do not disturb’ button is problematic. If the user grasps the camera with one hand, in order to turn the camera on with the other, it’s easy to accidentally squeeze the DND button (or manual shutter buttons). One way to avoid this is to set the camera on its base and turn it on with one hand.
Questions
Subsequent sessions (start after stop) to the camera overwrite previous data. There doesn’t appear to be a way at present to prevent this.
